Labor Day scaries kicking in?

This week is the time to take action - I share why & how 💪

Hi Friend,

I hope you had a wonderful long weekend!

Mine was filled mostly with rest, as I head into my my 11th out of 16 chemotherapy rounds this week. Although, my husband and I managed to sneak in a date night at the US Open 🎾 - a NYC bucketlist event and one that Jake & I both agreed we’ll prioritize going back to!

If you’re like most salaried corporate workers, you accept today’s holiday as a day off without many questions asked. I was part of that majority until last year, when I decided to do some digging on the holiday’s history.

I found that President Gover Cleveland signed Labor Day as a legal federal holiday into law in 1894 in response to massive unrest among American workers and the beginning of unionization movements.

130 years later and although we all have come to depend on this day off, it’s not exactly reparations for toxicity in workplaces that I see that span industries and geographies. I won’t politicize this newsletter with debate over how much the government should intercede in workplace standards but I think we can agree that in a lot of ways, American’s relationship with work and our workplace standards are failing us - from parental leave to fair pay and everything in between.

So if you’re feeling an all-consuming dread to the work you return to tomorrow morning, just know that there’s another way. You don’t have to feel stuck.

In fact, today is the perfect time to recognize that your current role is not aligned and to DO something about it.

If 'get a new job’ is a 2024 intention you set that hasn’t been realized yet, kicking it into high gear this week is essential to take advantage of the ‘September Surge’ in roles on the market before holidays, and the hiring slowdowns that come with it, are upon us.

Wondering WHAT to do to kick it into high gear?
